Walnut Tree Cottage Closed for Conservation

This year, you’ll notice things are a bit different at the museum as our beloved Walnut Tree Cottage is closed for vital renovation work.

The building’s external coating system is making the inside of the cottage damp as moisture can’t escape through the paint work, causing significant damage. English Heritage have erected scaffolding so that the external coating can be removed, and repairs to the brickwork can take place. We hope this work will reduce the moisture and help keep the cottage in good condition, to be enjoyed by visitors for many years to come.

Until the cottage can reopen as a setting for our 1940s fenland life collection, we are showcasing some of the objects usually on display in the cottage in a new temporary exhibition. Make sure to take a look when you visit – and let us know what you might like to see in the cottage in the future.
